The 2019 NFL Draft kicks off tomorrow, with the first round coming Thursday night at 8pm ET. Over the last several days, we have started taking a closer look at some of the draft prospects who could be on the Miami Dolphins’ radar come Thursday - or Friday or Saturday as the three-day selection process proceeds.
Some of Miami’s biggest questions heading into this year’s Draft are on the line of scrimmage, with tackle, guard, defensive end, and defensive tackle all positions of need. Our prospect profiles have covered several of those positions, and continue to do so now. We turn our attention in article nine of the series to Florida State edge rusher Brian Burns.
Former Penn State corner Amani Oruwariye was one among a handful of recruits who once saw a future at Vanderbilt before James Franklin abruptly left to coach the Nittany Lions.
In less than two weeks back in January 2014, the Florida native who had racked up over 23 offers thanks to his outstanding play at Tampa’s Gaither High would decommit from the Commodores, jump on a plane to State College, and ultimately sign on with the Big Ten program.
Success would not come immediately for the lengthy, rangy corner, however, as it took some time for his weight to match his height so that he could battle some of the Big Ten’s biggest receivers.
When all was said and done, Oruwariye became an integral part of coordinator Brent Pry’s defense and rose the ranks from depth contributor to the third corner to award-winning starter under the direction of Pry and corners coach Terry Smith.
Oruwariye ran well at the NFL Combine and hit other benchmarks along the way. NFL Draft experts seem split on his final landing spot, though.
